CollabThings is a platform to store, share in a designs of machines and constructions, scripts and instructions how those are manufactured and maintained. Everything piece is linked together and everything is automatically shared through service and p2p -network. You can take any design, edit and publish it.

The idea is to define how to build for example a hair dryer, what parts are needed and how they are put together. What tools and what kind of robot is needed to assembly it. If somebody wants to make a better design or update the software that is needed, anyone gets those updates. If you want to create something else using some of the parts of hair dryer, that is great because we already know how to build those parts and how to use them.

The platform is designed so that, it should handle cities as well as small parts. With some work you should be able to take a city and zoom in to some bolt somewhere.

Dynamic information about built parts, resources and skills people have will probably be stored in a network of services that can be searched based on location. Identifier of a part works as a link to CollabThings.

Current version in development:

Desktop app for decentralized applications

I think I figured out decentralizing applications including “Collabthings Parts”.

There’s now collabthings-api node project is a bridge to scuttlebutt network and runs registered API services. This is basically the part that makes everything decentralized. I’ll probably add a IPFS service here too.

Collabthings-app project is a electron app that launches the api project and registers services there. Services will be then listed in the app and you I’m thinking you could launch a website through that so that website can use a API it wants locallly.

Collabthings-parts is the old Collabthings app that uses the services to store bookmarks and implement search and stuff like that.

I’m trying to create collabthings-app-docs application first where you could collab and write/share documents and changes would be shared through the scuttlebutt platform.

It’s looking pretty good and currently everything is pretty much running. Lists of values can be shared already. It either bookmarks for the design software or some simple document editing I’m going to implement next.

I’ll probably need help with the app design. Currently it looks pretty terrible :D Also it could be re-branded easily as TZM app.
